About Dwight F. Burlingame

Dwight F. Burlingame, Ph.D., is Director of MA Programs and Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and holds the Glenn Family Chair in Philanthropy.

Burlingame holds degrees from Moorhead State University, the University of Illinois and Florida State University. He received the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential in 1989. He is an active member of the AFP Research Council, ARNOVA, and ISTR. He completed a 6-year term in 2010 as editor of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), the official journal of ARNOVA. He also is co-editor of the Philanthropic and Nonprofit Studies book series for the Indiana University Press.

Dr. Burlingame has authored and co-authored ten books, more than 55 articles and more than 100 book reviews. He is the editor of Philanthropy in America: A Comprehensive Historical Encyclopaedia published in 3 volumes by Clio Press, 2004. He is active in the nonprofit community as a board member and volunteer, a frequent speaker, consultant, and author on topics relating to philanthropy, corporate citizenship, nonprofit organizations, libraries, and development.
