Patrick Hopkins earned his B.S. in accounting and M.Acc. from the University of Florida in 1985 and 1986, respectively. He later earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas’s Graduate School of Business in 1995. He joined the Indiana University (IU) Kelley School of Business faculty in 1995 as a professor of accounting. In 2020, he earned the additional, honorary title of Glaubinger Chair, and, in 2013, he attained the additional, honorary title of SungKyunKwan Professor.
Prior to joining the IU faculty, Hopkins worked at KPMG and Deloitte Haskins and Sells. He also formerly held teaching positions at the University of Florida, the University of Texas, and Stanford University. His primary areas of interest include professional judgment and decision-making, human information processing, financial accounting, effects of accounting and auditing in capital markets, and financial statement analysis.
Throughout his teaching career, Hopkins has received a plethora of awards and honors to recognize his outstanding contributions in the classroom. He was the recipient of a Trustees’ Teaching Award from the IU Kelley School of Business in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2022. He also received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Graduate Accounting Department in 2001, 2002, 2012, 2017, and 2021.
