Dr. Dmitriy Chulkov received a BS in Economics and Finance with honors from the International University in Moscow, Russia in 1997. He earned his MS degree in 1999 and his PhD in 2004, both from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. Dr. Chulkov is currently a Professor of Economics and Management Information Systems in the School of Business at Indiana University Kokomo and teaches undergraduate and MBA courses in both subject areas.
As a teacher, Dr. Chulkov creates an excellent learning environment for his students. “The first thing that becomes immediately obvious (upon observing one of his classes) is his lack of reliance on lecture notes. He dominates the subject thereby paying full attention to both the students and the subject matter. Students appreciate this approach and self-confidence.” He uses real-life examples to illustrate the course concepts very well, and “maintains a high level of rigor in his courses, conveying respect and encouragement while guiding students towards a deeper exploration of the subject.” Dr. Chulkov’s research interests include issues in the economics and project management of information systems, as well as scholarship of teaching and learning. His research has been selected for several research awards, including the 2014 Indiana University Kokomo Distinguished Research Award. His research has appeared in the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Economic Studies, Information Management and Computer Security, Journal of Transportation Security, Journal of Education for Business, among others. He has received research support from the Department of Homeland Security, Western Kentucky University, Indiana University, Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching, and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Chulkov is an award-winning teacher honored with the Claude Rich Excellence in Teaching Award (2010) as well as several annual IU Trustees Teaching Awards. Other honors and recognitions include the Purdue Research Foundation Fellowship (2000), the Dauch Center for Management of Manufacturing Enterprises Dissertation Award (2000), and the Robert W. Johnson Distinguished Research Proposal Award from Purdue University (2001). Dr. Chulkov also received two Indiana University Kokomo Summer Faculty Fellowships (2005 and 2008), and was elected as a faculty member to Beta Gamma Sigma, the scholastic honor society for accredited schools of business. He is also a member of the Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching (FACET).
