Yuri Abramovich was a world-renowned mathematician and professor of mathematical sciences at the School of Science. He was an engaging and animated colleague and a passionately devoted mathematics researcher and educator. As director of graduate programs, he improved the learning environment for graduate students.
Abramovich and IUPUI professors Roko Aliprantis and Owen Burkinshaw teamed to form the world's leading mathematical school on Banach lattices and ordered structures. He collaborated with scientists around the world, and his contributions to mathematics were of lasting value; his name was associated with many important scientific discoveries.
Abramovich died after a four-year battle with cancer in 2003. In his honor, the Abramovich family established the Yuri Abramovich Memorial Scholarship. This fund has inspired a spirit of philanthropy throughout the School of Science, with many of Abramovich's colleagues and friends honoring his legacy with additional contributions.
