Kathy Rhyne retired in 2014 after 34 years of practicing law. She was a partner with King & Spalding’s Tort and Environmental Litigation Group, where her practice included product liability and environmental litigation, environmental regulatory advice, and crisis management on behalf of clients in the energy, chemical, forest products, and pharmaceutical industries. Ms. Rhyne worked with medical, technical and scientific experts in more than 30 different disciplines. She chaired the Firm’s Mass Tort and Product Liability Initiative and served in a number of leadership roles within the Firm. She was repeatedly ranked as a leading lawyer in Chambers, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Legal 500, Washingtonian Magazine, and other guides.
In 2009, Rhyne made a generous contribution to the IU community by becoming a founding member of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs Dean’s Council. The council is made up of scientists, engineers, attorneys, entrepreneurs, public servants and executives of domestic and international and corporations. In her role on the council, Rhyne has been instrumental in setting the direction of the school and has supported top students throughout their graduate careers. Since joining the Dean’s Council, Rhyne has supported SPEA students with scholarships. In the fall of 2013, Rhyne extended her expertise to the next generation of female students of public policy by participating in a mentoring workshop with other Dean’s Council members.
