Dr. Ellen Chernoff received her PhD from the University of Chicago in 1978. She is the Director of the IU Center for Regenerative Biology and medicine. A significant financial supporter of the School of Science at IUPUI, with a passion for research in regenerative biology, Chernoff has enjoyed a long-standing research career in the School of Science. As a developmental biologist, her research focuses on the regenerative properties of the axolotl, or Mexican salamander, exploring potential findings to enhance spinal cord regeneration in humans.
In her spare time, Chernoff is also a member of the Paperweight Collectors Association of Indiana and a devoted salamander keeper. Chernoff ’s areas of support at IUPUI include: the IUPUI Biology Department, the Richard McCracken Scholarship Fund, the Purdue School of Science Fund, the Regenerative Biology Fund and the IU Center for Regenerative Biology and Medicine.
