About Indiana Members Credit Union
The Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU) was started in 1956 by a group of employees at the Indiana University Medical Center, who saw a need to make low-cost credit available to the employees through a national cooperative system. Since its inception, the Credit Union has supported both IU and the Indianapolis community. In 2010, the Union founded the Indiana Members Foundation, which provides Indianapolis area school children with the necessities essential for learning and education success.
Indiana Members Credit Union understands the strength in involving business with education and how partnerships
can help change lives. Indiana Members Credit Union has a long history of supporting events with IUPUI. The
partnership started in 1994 with IUPUI’s United Way Chili for Charity. For 10 years, Indiana Members Credit Union was a sponsor for the university and helped raised funds for the university’s United Way campaign. In the mid-2000s, Indiana Members Credit Union co-sponsored the New Student Welcome. With more than 1,000 undergraduates attending, Indiana Members Credit Union supplied picnic blankets to every student. Indiana Members Credit Union also sponsored the IUPUI FamilyEd newspaper, read by more than 10,000 families of pre-college and first-year students. By publishing financial tips in this newspaper, the Indiana Members Credit Union helps families become financially prepared for higher education. Together, IUPUI and Indiana Members Credit Union seek to create a better workforce for Indiana.
Additionally, The IMCU has for years supported IUPUI Athletics. The partnership has helped support Jaguar athletes in the classroom, in the community, and on the playing field. IMCU has supported various athletic department philanthropic events, including the annual Michael Carroll golf outing, and has sponsored key athletic competitions. Additionally, IMCU has stated a variety of of student spirit initiatives promoting the athletics department mission, including student ticket pickup forums and pep rallies.
The IMCU has also staunchly supported the IUPUI Division of Student Life and IUPUI students. The IMCU has supported the Campus Center through a generous gift for the Distinguished Alumni Board Room and as an outstanding sponsor of the annual Campus Center Open House. For the past three years, IMCU has partnered with the Office of Student Involvement to provide scholarships, prizes, and activities for students during homecoming week. Additionally, the IMCU expanded its support of the division as a sponsor for the 2012 Health and Wellness Fair.
