- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2012
Lou Ann Mawby grew up an only child, graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, attended Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University before becoming a secretary at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. She left the Foundation to raise children, then returned in 1987, working until she retired in 1995. Following her retirement, Mawby and her husband, Russell G. Mawby, used their experiences from the Foundation to become benefactors within their home community of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Their generosity also extended to the IU community, when the Mawbys established five Russell G. and Lou Ann Mawby RISE Scholarships at the Center on Philanthropy to prepare students to work in the nonprofit sector and help guide philanthropy’s future.
