IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2011

About Phyllis DeLap

Phyllis DeLap, of Columbus, Indiana, and her husband, Kenneth, created the Kristen Schildmier Scholarship at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, in honor of their granddaughter, Kristen Schildmier. Kristen is an IUPUC graduate who completed her degree in 2006. The DeLaps were inspired to make their gift after learning about the financial needs of a single working mother who became close friends with their granddaughter when both were IUPUC students.

The scholarship goes to two IUPUC students each year, with preference given to IUPUC students who have previously earned an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech. The DeLaps endowed the scholarship with $40,000 in order to make a lasting commitment to support IUPUC students.
