Dr. Kunkler served as the director of medical education at Terre Haute Regional Hospital from 1970 to 1979. He was also chief of staff at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. In 1982, friends of Dr. Kunkler established the Arnold W. Kunkler, MD, Scholarship for medical students at IUSM-Terre Haute. The scholarship was a present to Dr. Kunkler.
Dr. Kunkler and his wife, Barbara McElroy Kunlker, had been dedicated supporters of future health care professionals through scholarship and service. The Kunklers have been generous contributors to the university. At the School of Nursing, they were among the lead donors to the Simulation Center for nursing education. They continuously contribute to the Jean Coffey Webster Nursing Scholarship, created by Mrs. McElroy Kunkler and the B.S.N. Class of 1951. Their family members have also supported this fund through gifts honoring Dr. and Mrs. Kunkler.
