About M. Stephen Harkness

M. Stephen Harkness graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science in finance. He later received an MBA from Indiana University. He retired from Duke Energy Generation Services, where he was president. During his career, he has held various executive level positions in the energy industry.

Harkness has served on the University of Evansville Board of Trustees since 2006 as the United Methodist Representative. Harkness delivered the keynote address to UE’s 2006 graduating seniors and received an honorary Doctor of Business Administration. In 2011, The Alumni Association awarded him the Distinguished Alumni Award. He is currently chairperson of the Board. Prior to his membership on the UE Board of Trustees, Harkness was a member of the UE Board of Visitors.

In addition to supporting other institutions, Harkness and his wife, Shelly, showed their profound interest in the education of future teachers by establishing the Sheats Family Scholarship at the IU School of Education.
