Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) is a nonprofit tree planting and urban greening organization in Indianapolis. The organization has helped plant 40,000 trees since 1976. Each year, KIB supports an average of 500 community improvement projects with more than 30,000 volunteers.
In 2011, KIB engaged IUPUI students, faculty, and staff in educationally meaningful service. Around 45,000 volunteers worked with KIB on more than 500 community improvement projects. Fourteen of these projects engaged nearly 700 IUPUI volunteers who contributed more than 3,100 hours of service to the Indianapolis community through beautification, litter pick-up, mural painting, and gardening. As an organization, KIB listens closely to the needs of the community and educates volunteers about the importance of the project, including effects of recycling, planting greenery to enhance sustainability, and creating energy-efficient buildings. The KIB staff goes above and beyond as a community partner, working with Center for Service and Learning staff to ensure that each project has meaning, education, and impact.
