Lumina Foundation for Education is committed to enrolling and graduating more students from college - especially low-income students, students of color, first-generation students, and adult learners. The foundation's goal is to increase the percentage of Americans who hold high-quality degrees and credentials to 60 percent by 2025.
Lumina's support of the African American Male Equity Project serves that ambitious goal and demonstrates the commitment to all members of the larger Indianapolis community. The faculty of the African American Male Equity Project study the factors that affect the high school performance and college-going behavior of black males and, based on that research, help develop intervention plans that improve the students' chances of college success.
In the mid-2000s, the Lumina Foundation granted strong support to the Center on Philanthropy. The Foundation established a fellowship program for PhD students in the Center's Philanthropic Studies doctoral program.
