Carlyn Johnson received her law degree from Indiana University in 1963. She served on the faculty of the IUPUI School of Public and Environmental Affairs until her retirement in 1998. At SPEA, she taught courses that emphasized public and nonprofit service and the importance of civic engagement.
Knowing she wanted to give back to the school where she had worked, she created the Johnson Community Service Scholarship. Johnson believed in the importance of an education that provides opportunities for hands-on learning. Her gift encompassed the very ideal of SPEA, the IUPUI campus, civic engagement, and community service. Her passion for the campus goes beyond SPEA and has included gifts to the Schools of Medicine and Law, the Senior Academy, and the SPEA student lounge.
