- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2010
The Ball family has been famous for both its financial success and philanthropic generosity. The family began their philanthropic relationship with the IUPUI campus in 1925, when they funded the construction of Ball Residence Hall as a home for the nurses of Riley Hospital and the Indiana University Training School for Nurses. At that time, the family's gift was the largest single contribution ever made to a state institution. In 2010, the Division of Student Life recognized their contributions to the Ball Gardens restoration project with an IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Award.
