- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2008
Norman Schulte spent most of his professional career serving as an elementary physical education teacher and principal in the Cincinnati Public Schools system. A School of Physical Education and Tourism Management alumnus, Schulte lettered in gymnastics during his junior and senior years at Indiana Univeristy.
Schulte is past president of the school’s alumni association and a long-standing board member. He assisted with
coordination of school celebration events in 1966 and 1976. As the former IU Camp Brosius children’s camp
director, his passion for the camp is evident through his subsequent work to improve the grounds, assist the
staff, and provide equipment.
Schulte is an active life member in Phi Epsilon Kappa, the professional fraternity for health, physical education, and recreation educators. He remains helpful in fraternity affairs. His respect for history is tremendously valuable to university archives and our school. He regularly identifies and contributes pieces that have historical significance.
