Barbara L. Wilcox, PhD, retired from the faculty of the IU School of Education at IUPUI in 2004 after 18 years of service, teaching, and leadership. From 1992 to 2001, she served as executive associate dean, and led a tremendous period of growth that strengthened academic programs, recruited top notch faculty and staff, and refocused research on urban public schools. Her leadership in philanthropy launched the school’s first successful capital campaign and created several scholarships and awards to celebrate the excellence of students and faculty.
In 1998, the Barbara L. Wilcox Scholarship was established to honor her legacy of leadership by supporting teacher education students committed to teaching in urban public schools. She continues to fund the scholarship, which has provided annual support for a cadre of urban educators advancing her commitment to equity and social justice in urban schools.
Wilcox received a B.A. in Psychology and Education from Smith College in 1969. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology in 1973 at the University of Illinois at Urbana.
