In 2006, The Cummins Foundation launched The Cummins Campaign for IUPUC to demonstrate its support of higher education in southern Indiana–and specifically IUPUC’s leadership role in enhancing the quality of life and economic development of the region. The foundation matched gifts from Cummins employees and retirees on a
2-to-1 basis, and the campaign achieved its $300,000 goal.
Cummins’ tradition of supporting its communities was perhaps best expressed by former Chairman J. Irwin Miller during the 1964 dedication of Otter Creek Golf Course: “We would like to see [this community] become the city in which the smartest, ablest, the best young families anywhere would like to live…a community which will offer their children the best education available. No such community can be built without citizens determined to make their community best…and we are happy to pay our share, whether in work, or in taxes, or in gifts like this one.”
