Wesley P. Martin was a Chicago native who grew up in Indianapolis. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1941, where he studied architecture.
Martin enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation, where he attained the rank of Lt. Commander. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1945, he joined Eli Lilly's Architectural Division. Martin was later president of Martin and Jelliffe Architects, as well as Geupel Architects and Engineers. Both firms received recognition for their work.
A professorship, the Wesley P. Martin Professor of Alzheimer Disease Education, was established in his name at the IU School of Medicine.
