About Forrest Meiere

Dr. Meiere was the first and longest-serving chair in the Department of Physics in the School of Science at IUPUI. He dedicated 32 years to physics education and research, guiding the department to national recognition and, in 2022, he established the Dr. Forrest Meiere Endowed Physics Chair. Dr. Meiere published research in all major journals in his field in the U.S. and Western Europe and was an investigator on grants from NSF, NIH, DoE, and DoD. He researched as a visiting scientist at the Universities of Colorado, Wisconsin, Brandeis, and the Aspen Institute and spent a sabbatical at DESY. As an instrumental and beloved faculty member, he is now a professor emeritus. The Dr. Forrest Meiere Endowed Physics Chair will be the first fully funded endowed chair in the School of Science. Dr. Meiere continues to pave the way and lead by example through his philanthropy for the next generation of scientists and researchers at IUPUI and in the Department of Physics.
