Pat Garrett Rooney studied for two years at Wilson College in Chambersburg near Gettysburg, and transferred and graduated from Kent State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In early 1963, she was hired to host Kindergarten College on Channel 13 in Indianapolis. She has served on the Board of Director at the Central Indiana Community Foundation.
Her community activities are vast and have included the Junior League, the Key to the City Newcomers Club, Tri Kappa, the Hamilton County Theatre Guild, Conner School and the Noblesville Swim Club. In 1976 Rooney co-founded and led Adventures Unlimited Travel Agency.
She has volunteered for the Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, the FBI Citizens’ Academy, Hook’s Discovery & Learning Center, Hope Academy Charter School at Fairbanks, the Indiana Repertory Theater, and the IUPUI University Library Community board of advocates. She has also been a longtime friend and donor to the University Library.
She has also served with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Indianapolis Civic Theater, the Indianapolis Opera, the Indianapolis Retirement Home, the Legacy Fund Community Foundation of Hamilton County, the CICF and Second Helpings. She has served as the interim chief executive officer at Conner Prairie and Legacy Fund.
