- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2002
Jim Dodson is President of the Dodson Group, Incorporated. His firm helps businesses improve their procurement practices for business services and supplies. The firm was ranked by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in 1993 and 1994 and has received numerous civic awards for helping the disadvantaged in the Indianapolis community. He created the Sycamore Foundation by contributing ten percent of annual profits from his firm.
In 1999, he established the Indiana Achievement Awards, in partnership with the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, to discover, recognize, reward, share, and encourage effective practices in nonprofit organizations. Six nonprofit organizations are chosen on an annual basis to receive awards through a competitive selection process. It is the ultimate goal of IAA to be a vehicle for creating a healthier nonprofit sector in Indiana. Each award-winning nonprofit organization receives a non-restricted cash prize of $10,000, a professionally produced short documentary about their program, recognition at an Awards Dinner, and has the opportunity to present their story at a statewide nonprofit conference.
