The Electrical Manufacturing and Coil Winding Association (EMCWA) is a non-profit voluntary organization dedicated to the furtherance and advancement of the electrical manufacturing industry through conception, research, design, manufacturing, marketing and use of electrical products. The Association provides an array of educational opportunities to enhance the development, knowledge, and use of electrical technology and products. An important component of their educational program includes significant scholarship support to colleges and universities throughout the United States. In 2000-2001 fourteen universities received some level of support designated for student scholarships. From 1997-1999 the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology received $2,000 as part of their Purdue University allocation and in 1999-2000 the School was added as their twelfth campus – receiving $9,000 in financial support and then moving to full funding status of $18,000 in 2000-2001.
EMCWA's financial support to the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology encompasses broad based student scholarships, equipment grants, and sponsorship for the formula lightning racecar. Their scholarship program encourages recipients to participate in technical sessions limited to undergraduate and student presentations at the annual conference and exposition and provides a forum for students to write, publish and present technical papers while interacting with industry at a technical level.
