Roy Dunbar serves the President of Global Technology & Operations at CAST. He is also a director at Lexmark International, Inc., Humana Inc., and iGate Corporation. Prior to his position at CAST, Dunbar was the President of Global Technology and Operations for MasterCard, where he was responsible for its global payments platform and operations. Before that, he enjoyed a 14-year career at Eli Lilly and Company.
Dunbar was born in Jamaica and emigrated to the United Kingdom as a boy. He earned a pharmacy degree from Manchester University and began his career as the manager of two Boots the Chemist stores in London. After two years, he returned to Manchester to earn an MBA. Finishing his graduate degree, he joined Eli Lilly as a research analyst. In 1999, after many promotions, Dunbar became Lilly's Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. In this position, he led a team of 2,700 IT professionals to revolutionize Lilly's technology infrastructure. His efforts were highly successful and he is credited with transforming the pharmaceutical giant's use of IT to increase its speed to market with new drugs. His exemplary performance led to his promotion to President of Eli Lilly's Intercontinental Region, where he was responsible for operations in the Middle East, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America, Africa, Asian, and the Caribbean.
While at Lilly, Dunbar was an active supporter of IU's School of Informatics. He worked to create partnership between Lilly and the School of Informatics in the areas of research and teaching. He also appeared as a spokesperson and gave public presentation on behalf of the school. Additionally, He is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and on the Working Council for the CIO Corporate Executive Board, as well as serving on the IU School of Informatics Dean’s Council.
