Eileen Champagne is an experienced and well-respected educator and administrator with Indianapolis Public Schools. In 2000, she was selected as the first principal for the newly renovated George Washington Middle School. She quickly learned to negotiate the details of building construction, heating and cooling systems, and furnishing empty rooms with ease and good cheer. She was named Indiana Middle Level Educator Teacher of the Year in 1993. Champagne is actively involved in a variety of community organizations including WESCO, Hawthorne Community Center, Holy Family Shelter, and teaching religious education classes for mentally handicapped adults.
Champagne has provided important leadership in creating a worthwhile school-community-university partnership. IUPUI faculty, students, and staff have the opportunity to work with GWMS students in a variety of tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment programs. These partnerships enrich the lives of students by bringing together persons with one common goal: encouraging youth to succeed in and out of the classroom as good students and citizens.
