Kathy DeBrabant graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology. After graduation Kathy moved to California where she was a real estate broker for 20 years.
In 1996 she moved back to Indiana and became a VISTA volunteer with a human services organization in Columbus, Indiana and taught life skills to troubled youth and the developmentally disabled. After finishing her work with the VISTA program, DeBradant moved to Indianapolis and resumed a real estate career. After two years, she retired.
Determined to remain active in her retirement, DeBrabant decided to find meaningful work in her retirement. She met and interviewed with Judy Helms of the A.I.M. program--a transition program for young men and women in their home community after they have been incarcerated. From November of 2000 until January 2001, DeBrabant tirelessly organized in preparation of the A.I.M. Support Center's opening. Its doors opened on January 8, 2001. Her work helps ensure that the young people being served by the mentoring program can meet the day-to-day challenges in their community. Her time and talent have helped bring this model program into being and given her life a new purpose and direction.
