Monroe Little, Ph.D. from Princeton University, is a retired Associate Professor of History at IUPUI. Dr. Little was the director of the Africana Studies program from its inception in 1980 until 2011. Dr. Little worked with faculty in the Africana Studies Program to develop a curriculum that provided the basis for the new Bachelor’s Degree in Africana Studies. He also served as the Director of Community Empowerment at the Center for Global Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development.
Dr. Little’s scholarly publications on African American Studies and American education have been published in The Journal of Negro History, Harvard Educational Review, Black History News and Notes, the Journal of African American History, and the Western Journal of Black Studies. He was the recipient of the Joseph Taylor Excellence in Diversity Award at IUPUI in 2008 and the Lilly Open Faculty Fellowship.
