Max Harold Fisch (1901-1995) was an internationally renowned scholar and recognized especially for his work on Charles S. Peirce and Giambattista Vico. Fisch received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1928. Fisch’s outstanding scholarship and strong leadership guided the Peirce Edition Project during his tenure as Senior Editor. The library at the Institute for American Thought has been named the Max H. Fisch Library in his honor. In 1959 the Philosophy Department of Harvard University invited Fisch to be the official biographer of Peirce. Fisch spent nearly forty years collecting research to write Peirce’s biography. Fisch never completed the biography project. He did, however, leave a legacy of scholarly information with the Peirce Edition Project.
