Ernestine Lambertus, known as Mimi, was an Indianapolis native. She attended Purdue University in 1931 to study Home Economics. When living in Indianapolis, Lambertus was active in a number of clubs, including the Columbia Club and the Young Presidents Organization. She was a dedicated member of her P.T.A., a member of the Eastern Star for over 70s years, and was an active member of the P.E.O., an organization that promotes educational opportunities for women.
In the '50s and '60s, Lambertus worked at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis for eight years, followed by another eight years at the Indianapolis Museum of Art's Better than New shop. In 1977, a business opportunity of her husband's sent the couple to Korea for a couple of months.
In 1990, Lambertus established an endowed scholarship at the IUPUI School of Science in honor of her husband, Frank, who was an advisor to the dean. This scholarship is awarded to a student who shows significant academic improvement over the previous year.
