Paul I. Cripe received his education in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in the 1920s. He flourished in the prosperity of the '20s, but suffered in the throes of the Great Depression. Having lost his job, Cripe sought to create his own business. He obtained a Surveyor's license and opened a surveying office in the People's Bank Building in Indianapolis. He founded his design business, Cripe, Inc. in 1937.
