- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 1990
The Indianapolis Churches for Educational Excellence was an organization of inner-city Indianapolis ministers and their congregations formed in 1989. The group was dedicated to making higher education available to students who may have been denied access due to economic or social factors. With the help of the Indianapolis Churches for Educational Excellence, IUPUI became a national model for minority recruitment and retention. Members of the group attended the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in 1989 to address the annual meeting.
The group served as a springboard initiative for the cooperation between IUPUI and the Indianapolis church community to help support minority education.
