Frank E. Burley was a professor emeritus at the IUPUI Purdue School of Engineering and Technology from 1978 until his death in 1999. He was named associate professor of electrical engineering technology in 1973. Prior to that appointment, he was the Dean of Continuing Education.
Burley came to teaching with a wealth of professional experience. Before beginning his career, he spent 29 years working for Western Electric Co., where he helped implement the manufacturing of a circuit used in Touch-Tone telephones. He retired as the manager of product engineering in 1968.
Burley earned his B.S. and Master's degrees from MIT, in 1930 and 1931, respectively.
