Dr. William L. “Bill” Scott is a long-time friend, colleague and supporter of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at IUPUI. Bill, a retired Eli Lilly scientist, joined the chemistry research faculty in 2002 where he created the Distributed Drug Discovery (D3) Program. His personal implementation of the D3 Program at IUPUI and in schools in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and multiple schools across the United States has brought IUPUI global recognition. Bill and his colleagues work tirelessly to give undergraduate students hands-on research experiences that push forward the frontiers of drug discovery and disease treatments while supporting students’ growth and understanding of core research skills and best practices.
For over 20 years, Bill has significantly supported the IUPUI Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department through philanthropic efforts which help provide resources and meaningful experiences for science students. A strong supporter of higher education and giving back one’s time and resources, he has continually embodied a spirit of service to our students, School, and the chemistry department.
Through his philanthropy, he has given thousands of students unmatched opportunities to experience the excitement of chemistry with global impact, and been pivotal in supporting our future scientists on their journey towards obtaining a STEM degree. Bill’s passion for improving the world is a legacy he passes on to the D3 students he teaches every day.
The School of Science and Indiana University are forever grateful to Bill for his unwavering commitment and support of the D3 Program and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology.
