Bedford-native Ralph D. Wray is a three-time graduate of Indiana University receiving his B.S. in Education in 1964, M.S. in Education in 1966, and his Ed.D. in 1970. Wray went on to pursue an academic career and is professor emeritus at Illinois State University, after having taught in their College of Business for 25 years. He was also adjunct professor at Butler University. Wray authored and co-authored over ten books on topics including merchandising, marketing, and professional development. After retirement, Ralph and his wife, Martha, chose to Bloomington as their retirement destination. During his life, Wray was particularly supportive of IU Athletics. He, alongside his wife, created the Ralph and Martha Wray Endowed Scholarship in Athletics. The gift is focused to generously support student-athlete scholarships for years to come. Wray has also shown dedicated support to the Kelley School of Business, Woodburn Guild, School of Education, and School of Library Information Science, now known as the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Wray was a life member of the IU Alumni Association, Monroe County Chapter, and a member of the IU Foundation Arbutus Society. For his love, commitment, and dedication to Indiana University, Ralph Wray was presented the Presidents Circle Laurel Pin in 2013.
