Harold "Pete" Goldsmith has served as Dean of Students at Indiana University since 2009. He earned undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Indiana University Bloomington. His undergraduate major was government with minors in psychology and sociology. After graduating from the American University with Master of Education degree in student personnel, he returned to IU to pursue an Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration.
Goldsmith has overseen student affairs and enrollment management at Kent State University since 2003. He previously served as vice president for student affairs at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has also served as an administrator in student affairs at Michigan State and Old Dominion universities.
He has served as a consultant to the National Association of College and University Business Officers on strategic planning and has held leadership positions in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the American College Personnel Association.
He has published articles in student affairs journals and national newspapers on the impact of technology on student affairs and a number of other topics. He has given presentations around the nation on town-gown relations, curbing alcohol abuse on college campuses, and ethics in student affairs.
