Joshua Stewart is currently completing his Ph.D. in marine biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where he's conducting his dissertation research on the population dynamics and ecology of oceanic manta rays.
In keeping with his research, Stewart serves as an associate director of the Manta Trust, a collaboration between researchers, conservationists, and filmmakers aimed at studying and protecting manta rays. He's produced several independent documentaries and short films, receiving the 2010 Australian Geographic Spirit of Adventure Award in the process.
Stewart graduated from Indiana University with a degree in marine biology, a major that he designed through the university's Individualized Major Program.
