The Vera Z. Dwyer Charitable Trust is a private foundation known for its philanthropic efforts, particularly in the Mishawaka, Indiana area. It was founded by Vera Dwyer and her husband James; it primarily funds gifts and has supported various organizations, including the Indiana University Foundation. In 2022, the Dwyer Trust made 22 grants, with notable contributions to Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, Cancer Society of St. Joseph County RiverBend Cancer Services, and Boys and Girls Club of St. Joseph County.
The Dwyer Trust has given $8.75 million to IU South Bend since 2014. In 2015, IU South Bend received a $5.85 million donation. As the single largest gift ever given to the university, it supported the expansion and re-location of the Health and Wellness Center to the newly named Dwyer Hall.The IU South Bend Health and Wellness Center, now located in Dwyer Hall, continues to serve all students, faculty, and staff, with projections of a partnership with HealthLinc, a federally qualified healthcare provider. The Trust has left a long-lasting impact that will always be remembered for the years to come.
In appreciation of their generous contributions that have made a positive impact in the South Bend community, the Vera Z. Dwyer Charitable Trust was presented with an Indiana University South Bend Chancellor and Provost Medallion by Terry L. Allison in 2015.
