The role of BP Corporation North America, Inc. in Indiana’s economy is indispensable. Between the Whiting Refinery to the Fowler Ridge Wind farm, BP employs more than 1,800 people and supports more than 60,000 jobs across the state. BP’s Whiting refinery produces around 444,000 barrels of oil every day and is BP’s largest refinery in the world. Its strategic location has made IU Northwest a growing learning space for hands-on experience, attracting global investors and professionals wanting to further explore their area of expertise.
BP continues to develop hydrogen and decarbonization apprenticeship programs to help prepare local talent for quality jobs in this field. BP has also worked with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and other Indiana legislative leaders to support the passage of legislation that encourages future carbon capture and storage (CSS) projects across the state. Both the State of Indiana and BP are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and by carrying out CSS initiatives there’s a window of opportunity to grow the economy while taking care of our planet.
In appreciation of their service to the U.S. and Indiana community through their unwavering commitment to meet the energy needs of America and the world, BP Corporation North America, Inc. was presented with an IU Northwest Chancellor and Provost Medallion by William J. Lowe in 2017.
