Dr. Wester earned a B.A. in English from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, in 1999. She completed an M.A., English from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, in 2001 and a PhD in English in 2006.
Her area of interest is American Culture Studies, African American Literature, and Twentieth Century American Literature. Her research focus has been on African American Gothic Literature and Horror Films.
Before beginning her work at IU in African American and African Diaspora Studies, in August 2013, Wester worked as Assistant Professor in the English Department and American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University from 2006-July 2013.
As recipient of a 2017 Fulbright Scholarship, she traveled to the university of Sheffield, England to investigate Afro-British Gothic literature and sociopolitical deployment of Gothic tropes in British discourses about race (18th century onward).
