About William Scheuerman

William Scheuerman earned his B.A. in philosophy from Yale University in 1987. Upon completion, he continued his education at Harvard University where he earned his Ph.D. in political science in 1993. Scheuerman first joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in 2006 as a professor of political sciences and West European studies. In 2019, he was awarded the additional title of Rudy Professor.

Prior to joining the IU faculty, Scheuerman taught as an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Minnesota. His primary research and teaching interests are in modern political thought, German political thought, democratic theory, legal theory, and international political theory. Scheuerman has authored and edited several books related to these topics and more. His work has been published in many professional journals, including Constellations, History of Political Thought, International Theory, Journal of Political Philosophy, Politics & Society, Review of International Studies, and Social Research.

A recipient of numerous prestigious grants and fellowships, he serves on editorial boards for a number of journals, including Constellations, European Journal of Political Theory, International Relations, Journal of International Political Theory, Review of Politics, and Time & Society.
