John F. Barna earned his B.S. in Business in 1954 and went on to earn his M.B.A. in 1958 from the School of Business in Bloomington. While a student, he was a member of the Accounting Club and Flame Club.
In 1993, John retired as a client partner after 35 years with KPMG. During his career, he worked out of the New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh offices. John's wife, Nadine (B.S. 1957), passed away in 2003. Together, they had three children. John later married Judie, who also had three children from a previous marriage.
He has supported the School of Education, IU Athletics, but has particularly given generous support over the years to the Kelley School of Business. In 1998, he established the John F. Barna Faculty Fellowship at the Kelley School of Business in Bloomington. He has continued his support towards the Kelley School by providing impactful support to many of their initiatives. IU Foundation presented Barna the Presidents Circle Laurel Pin in 2018 in gratitude for his sustained philanthropy to the university.
In 2020, Barna was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished contributions to Indiana University.
