Jean A. Peters earned her B.A. in French from the College of arts and Science in 1952. While a student at IU, she was a member of the Pi Peta Phi Sorority and Mortar Board. She went on to complete two master’s degrees from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago in 1969 and 1977. Jean and her late husband, Chuck, had four sons – all of which have degrees from Indiana University. Jean has supported several scholarships including the Aline H. Robinson Volleyball Scholarship, named in honor of Jean’s mother; Charles and Jean R. Peters Track and Field Scholarship; and 1950 Outdoor Big Ten Track and Field Championship Team Endowed Scholarship. Peters also created the Sid Robinson Biology Scholarship in the College of Ars & Sciences in honor of her father, an Olympic track star who became an internationally famous exercise and environmental physiologist. He later chaired the IU Department of Anatomy and Physiology. Peters is a life member of the Jacobs School of Music Friends of Music and IU Alumni Association, Monroe County Chapter, and a member of the Arbutus Society. She was inducted into the Presidents Circle and presented the signature laurel pin in 2018.
