Dr. Milton Roggenkamp graduated from Milltown High School in Crawford County, Indiana in 1942. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1946 and married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Wenning, on July 2, 1945. Utilizing a G.I. Bill scholarship, Dr. Roggenkamp earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Louisville in 1948 and his Doctorate of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1952. Dr. Roggenkamp followed medical school with an internship at Riverside County Hospital, Riverside, California from 1952-53. Dr. Roggenkamp and his family returned to Indiana where he established a general medicine practice in New Albany until 1955 when he returned to the Indiana University School of Medicine to complete a residency in pathology. In 1959, after becoming board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Roggenkamp joined a pathology group in Bradenton, Florida. The Roggenkamps returned to Lafayette, Indiana in 1966 where Dr. Roggenkamp practiced medicine until his retirement in 1992. He established the Dr. Milton W. and Ruth I. Roggenkamp Scholarship for Southern Indiana Medical Students in 2009 to support generations of students. The scholarship also supports students that are veterans, children or grandchildren of veterans, or from rural communities. For his philanthropic spirit to the medical community of Indiana University, Roggenkamp was welcomed to the Fellow level of Presidents Circle in 2018.
