Sheila R. Wheat is dedicated to supporting her alma mater, Indiana University Southeast. She earned her Bachelor’s in General Studies and Certificate in Business Studies from the institution in 1981 and began a successful advertising career in Louisville. She has since retired and enjoys gardening at her home with husband and former IU Southeast professor and dean, Jerry Wheat. Sheila has created scholarships to support generations of IU Southeast students in financial need. She established, with her husband, the Dr. Jerry E. and Sheila R. Wheat Scholarship for IU Southeast School of Business students. Additionally, she supports the George M. Hand Scholarship, in honor of her husband’s grandfather, which supports marketing and management students at IU Southeast. The couple has also created the Dr. Jerry E. and Sheila R. Wheat International Study Scholarship for business majors at IU Southeast that are interested in marketing or management and who intend to study abroad. Wheat has also shown support for IUPUC, the O’Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs, and the Kelley School of Business among other designations. For her dedication to her alma mater and support of its students, Wheat was presented the Presidents Circle Laurel Pin at the Benefactor level.
