Cory Robinson is an associate professor of Art at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his years of appointment since 2003, his teaching and research has centered around furniture design and professional design practices associated with making furniture. As the chair of the Fine Arts department at Herron for the last 7+ years, Robinson has been very active in the shaping of numerous initiatives at the school. Proudly 2015 marked the launch of the Think It Make It lab that is a maker space within in the art school that provides students access to advanced digital production tools and softwares, to be used in conjunction with the analog studios of a 110 year old art and design institution.
Robinson's interest in the hybrid place where digital and analog tools/processes meet remains a passion for his current studio practice. He is also invested in the traditions of designing and making furniture for private and commercial spaces as part of his studio practice. Robinson currently serves as the president of the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina - based Furniture Society organization. This mission of the Furniture Society is to promote excellence and further the field of contemporary furniture making and design. As the organization approaches its 20th year anniversary as a non-profit in 2016, Robinson has been involved in the search and hire of the organization's second executive director, as well as numerous obligations related to the running of organization's annual conferences in service to the approximately 800 members.
