Since coming to IU Northwest in 1990, Nelson DeLeon has been a loyal IUN supporter. As a young adult, DeLeon was the recipient of other's philanthropy. His gratitude for this financial assistance has continued to drive his pay-it-forward passion to make higher education affordable to others.
DeLeon serves IU Northwest as a Chemistry professor and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Since he and his family emigrated from Bolivia to make a better life for themselves, DeLeon sees great value in giving back and providing affordable access to education.
Through the years, both DeLeon and his wife, Carol Wood, have committed themselves to science outreach and education. Through their philanthropic efforts, they have endowed the Carol and Nelson DeLeon Chemistry Scholarship for deserving students in the field.
In 2020, Nelson DeLeon was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished service to Indiana University.
