- School of Optometry Foley House Basement Key Award - 1991
Dr. Felix Maitland Barker, II completed four degrees at Indiana University: a B.A. in Chemistry in 1970; a B.S. in Optometry in 1971; an O.D. in 1973; and a M.S. in 1979.
In 1991, Dr. Barker was presented with the Indiana University School of Optometry Foley House Basement Key Award which recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and/or service to the IU School of Optometry.
Barker is Professor Emeritus from Salus University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he served as educator, researcher, administrator and student mentor for more than 30 years. In 1978, he began his career at Salus University's Pennsylvania College of Optometry as the chief of Primary Care Services at The Eye Institute. He served in varying leadership roles in the optometry program before becoming the driving force behind the institution's research program. As Dean of Research, he made important changes to how the institution structured research. He worked directly with the researchers, overseeing their studies, and supporting their grant efforts. An active advocate of community service, he founded the Salus Lions Club student chapter. Dr. Barker retired in 2010.
