About Outrun the Sun

Founded in Indianapolis, Outrun the Sun (OTS) is Indiana’s only nonprofit organization supporting skin cancer education and melanoma research. OTS has funded 23 melanoma researchers nationwide who actively seek new therapies and a cure for melanoma. Outrun the Sun also partners with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indiana Department of Education, Girl Scout councils nationwide, the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, and more in order to educate children and adults about sun safety and skin cancer prevention. OTS has been recognized by the Indiana Cancer Consortium and the American Academy of Dermatology for its achievements.

In 2017, Outrun the Sun generously established a scholarship at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health in order to support IUPUI students studying epidemiology. The scholarship allows students to engage with faculty in research projects that seek to identify genetic and environmental factors that may cause melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
