About Nasser Paydar

Nasser Paydar was the executive vice president and chancellor of IUPUI from 2015 to 2022. Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, Paydar holds a bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University. As an IUPUI faculty member, he served as principal or co-principal investigator on research grants from federal and state agencies and private companies, including Cummings Electronics, DePuy, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center. His research in the area of solid mechanics, with applications in biomechanics and electronic packaging, has been published widely in scientific journals.

With over thirty years of service to Indiana University, Paydar has held a wide variety of positions across the university during his tenure. From 1989 to 2003, he held several administrative positions in the School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI including department chair, associate dean for graduate programs, associate dean for academic programs, and executive associate dean. In 2004 he became vice chancellor and dean of Indiana University - Purdue University Columbus, where he remained for three years. Paydar was appointed chancellor of Indiana University East in 2007, where he lead IUE through a strategic planning process, an enrollment increase of 87%, improvement in first year retention rates, and a substantial increase in graduation rates. In 2012, Paydar returned to IUPUI as the executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer where he served until the retirement of Charles R. Bantz in 2015.
