Brenda McLane received a degree in business from Indiana University East and Indiana Wesleyan University, and an M.A. in adult education and distance learning from University of Phoenix. She remains actively involved with IU East, and currently serves as a member of their board of advisors.
McLane is the owner, publisher and editor of Hometown Media Group, a company which publishes two weekly newspapers in Western Wayne County, near Richmond, Indiana. The Western Wayne News and Nettle Creek Gazette newspapers provide community and county news. She is also president and CEO of TrainCom Ventures LLC. Prior experience includes serving as a statewide corporate executive for life and sciences healthcare, and executive director, with Ivy Tech Corporate College in Bloomington.
McLane serves on numerous committees and boards including: The Hoosier State Press Association Foundation Board, Indiana University East Board of Advisors, The Wayne County Foundation and Forward Wayne County, Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Board and Issues and Advocacy Committee, the Regional Quality of Place and Tourism Task Force, the Cambridge City Plan Commission, the Cambridge City Comprehensive Strategic Plan Steering Committee, Western Wayne Schools’ Improvement Committee, and the Henry County Health Community Health Needs Steering Committee. In 2019, McLane received Indiana University’s Bicentennial Award, in recognition of her distinguished service and contributions.
